Import/Export Data

You can export blog settings, data and content from Ghost into a .json file. This is useful if you want to create a backup of your blog.

What will be exported?

Content and data that will be exported using the export feature:

  • All Settings
  • Users
  • Subscribers
  • Posts
  • Pages
  • Tags

Content that will not be exported using the export feature:

  • Theme files
  • Images

Create an Export File

  1. Log into your Ghost blog, yourblog.ghost.io/ghost/signin.
  2. Click Labs under the settings menu.
  3. Click the Export button to generate the .json file.
  4. Save the file to your computer.

Import into Ghost

  1. Log into your Ghost blog, yourblog.ghost.io/ghost/signin.
  2. Select Labs from your admin menu on the left.
  3. Click Choose file to select the .json file from your computer.
  4. Click Import to import your JSON file into Ghost.

Note: If you import a user, this will replace the current user & log you out.

Exporting Images

If you are planning to export your Ghost(Pro) data into a self-installed version of Ghost, note that your images will not migrate with the rest of your blog settings and data. You will need to write to [email protected] to request your image directory.
