I have questions about how to use Ghost, where can I get help?

You can test out a free 14 day trial on Ghost.org any time, which is probably the best way to get familiar with Ghost. If you're looking for some specific help, we've got an entire support site full of Ghost guides and helpful articles.

How exactly are Ghost(Pro) "views" calculated?

Views refer to the number of (real) human people who visit your site each month. These are tracked much like an analytics 'pageview' - and counted each time a page has fully loaded.

Why should I use Ghost(Pro) instead of just running Ghost on my own servers?

Great question! If you're a developer considering self-hosting, then perhaps the most simple answer is that Ghost(Pro) will save you both time and money.

If you self host: You'll start with a base cost of around $20/month for a VPS, then you'll need to pay extra for CDN, security and backups services. After that you'll spend a couple of hours installing and setting up everything, and also set aside a couple of hours of your time each month for maintenance + software updates. Which gets expensive pretty quick.

If you use Ghost(Pro): We do all of that for you, automatically, for a single monthly price.

Another important consideration is that when it comes to downtime and security threats, if you self-host, you're on your own. When it comes to Ghost(Pro), we lose sleep so you don't have to.

Lastly, by using Ghost(Pro) you directly fund the future development of Ghost itself. If you use another host, then Ghost doesn't benefit from that money in any way.

The wonderful thing about Open Source software is that you always have the power and the freedom to choose where you want to run it!

Does Ghost(Pro) provide SSH/FTP access?

We don't provide direct access to your site via FTP/SSH as Ghost(Pro) is a fully managed environment. You do, however, have full access to upload any type of 3rd party code within your theme files.

How do I reactivate my old Ghost(Pro) account?

If you previously had a Ghost.org account and wish to re-activate it rather than create a new one, please contact support@ghost.org.

Do you have a referral program?

We do not have a referral program setup at the moment, however it's certainly something we're thinking about doing in future.

Getting Started

What is Markdown and how does it work?

Markdown is the minimal syntax that Ghost uses for marking up your documents with formatting, using punctuation and special characters. If you're unsure of how to work with Markdown, please checkout our Markdown Guide.

How can I track how many views my site is getting?

You can easily get detailed data about how much traffic your site is getting by installing any standard analytics service. Google Analytics is the one very popular option, which is very simple to add to Ghost.

How do I upload an image into Ghost?

You can add an image to your post by typing ![]() in the editor, or pressing CMD/Ctrl + Shift + I. This will load an upload box in the post preview area for you to upload an image. More info here, if you need it.

How do I set up a custom domain for Ghost(Pro)?

You'll need to map your domain name to your Ghost publication using a CNAME record in your domain's DNS settings. After that you'll want to update your Ghost(Pro) site settings to use your new custom domain. We've got a full tutorial on how to do this.

How can I edit my Ghost theme?

Editing a Ghost theme requires some basic development knowledge, but is relatively straightforward. You can follow along with our support guide to get started, or check out the full Ghost theme doumentation for more advanced areas.

Security & Privacy

Can you describe your security practices?

We take security at Ghost very seriously. We, like you, expect our data to be secure and confidential at all times, and we go to great lengths to ensure that this is always the case. We conduct regular security reviews of our platform and our infrastructure to ensure that customer data is always completely secure.

Where are your data centers located?

All Ghost servers are located in Digital Ocean's AMS data centers in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The site is staffed 24/7/365 with onsite security and to protect against unauthorized entry. Each site has security cameras that monitor both the facility premises as well as each area of the datacenter internally. There are biometric readers for access as well as at least two factor authentication to gain access to the building. Each facility is unmarked so as not to draw any additional attention from the outside and adheres to strict local government standards.

Billing

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept most major credit and debit cards such as Visa, Mastercard or American Express. We do not accept PayPal or wire transfers at present.

How do I update my credit card details?

To change the card used for your subscription go to your billing settings area and click on the button to update your payment information.

Do plans automatically renew?

Yes. All Ghost(Pro) plans automatically renew either monthly or yearly, depending on your billing preference. Annual plans are 25% cheaper than monthly plans.

Do you offer any discounts?

Yep! You can get 25% off our lower plans or 35% off our higher plans, when paying annually!

Are prices inclusive of all taxes and charges?

The price you see on our pricing page is the exact USD price you will be charged. Some banks do charge a foreign currency transaction fee if they are outside of the USA. This can be easily avoided by paying annually, so you only have to pay the bank's fee one time instead of twelve times!

I'm a student / open source developer / non-profit, can I have special pricing?

Probably! Send us an email on support@ghost.org and tell us a little bit about what you're doing. We like supporting people doing good things.

How do I cancel my account? Can I have a refund?

To cancel your account, edit your subscription and change your plan from active to "Cancel" — that's all there is to it! If you need any help just email us on support@ghost.org.

We do not offer refunds.
